Notification to Students: Ethics and Professional Skills Module

Dear ACCA Students,

Please note that effective October 31, 2017, ACCA’s current Professional Ethics Module will change to Ethics and Professional Skills Module.

Understanding the new module

The new module will have key significant features that will be different from the current module. Please note the following features of the new module:

  • The duration of the new module will be 20 hours
  • The new module will cost £60
  • You should finish the module before starting the Strategic Professional exams
  • You can start when you are studying any Applied Skills exam
  • You are awarded a certificate upon completion

If you prefer to sit for the current Ethics Module

The duration is about three hours and is taken online. There are no costs associated with the current Module.  It may be taken by any student who has completed F1 to F3.

ACCA encourages you to do so now, don’t procrastinate! Take time off and get the module out of the way! You will be happy that you did. Good luck in your completion of the module and best wishes in your ACCA journey.

For any enquiries on the above, please contact Mareka Chabedi by e-mailing: Mareka.Chabedi@accaglobal.com

Kirsten Ronaasen kicks F7’s butt!

ACCA_StudentProfiles_KRonaasen.blogWell done to Kirsten who achieved a top score in the recent exams. What drives Kirsten? Read below to find out what motivates Kirsten:

What do you believe being an ACCA member will do for your career?

ACCA is a globally recognised and respected qualification and I believe that along with assuring future employers of our abilities, it will open doors to many opportunities, whether in SA or abroad.

How do you find the time to study effectively while working full time?

I find it challenging to leave work at work. It is something I constantly have to improve on so that I can focus on my studies and my family, whose time is also sacrificed to reach my goals.

I try to manage my time as effectively as possible, giving my utmost to every task. Sometimes I simply run out of “day” and have to prioritise on what is really important.

How do you stay motivated?

As I still have many exams to go, perhaps I should answer that at the end!

Although I keep the end target in sight, I focus on each exam as its own goal and each one passed as its own success. Celebrate the successes and don’t get bogged down by the failures.

Words of encouragement:

A quote from Dr. Seuss:

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.

You’re on your own. And you know what you know.

And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go.”

Xolile Khumalo rocks P7 in the March 2017 exams

ACCA_StudentProfiles.XolileKhumalo2Well done to Xolile on his achievement for the March 2017 exam. We are proud of Xolile’s exam result.

We sat down with Xolile to gain further insight into his secrets of success:

What do you believe being an ACCA member will do for your career?

I believe membership to ACCA will give me access to a reputable professional body and access to credible material for CPD to keep my knowledge up to date in the competitive world of finance.

How do you find the time to study effectively while working full time (if applicable)

I prefer waking up early in the morning and putting in 1 to 1.5 hours of study before going to work, because it’s much tougher to study in the evenings after work.

How do you stay motivated?

I don’t believe in motivation as such, my philosophy is if you want something you get up and do it. Currently I stay motivated knowing that I have the opportunity to make it to membership in 2017.

What words of encouragement do you have for other students?

I would say focus more on questions and augment the areas where you lack theoretical knowledge by going back to your study text. Questions give you a platform to test your knowledge levels and to time yourself as well.

Saloshni Govender – Top Achiever: P2

Well done to Saloshni for being our top achiever second time around!

Which ACCA resources did you make use of to prepare for the P2 exam?ACCA_StudentProfiles.jpg

I used the material provided on the ACCA website (past papers, notes etc) as well as other material from research on the internet etc, and also study material I obtain from friends also study through ACCA.

Please share tips on pre-exam nerves…how do you stay calm?

I keep telling myself before a paper just to take each paper as they come and give my all to the one that I am writing and forget the rest.

Greg Hodgson – Top Achiever: F8

Well done to Greg for succeeding as top achiever in the December exams. Keep going Greg!

What do you believe being an ACCA member will do for your career?

I believe that being an ACCA member will certainly open a lot of doors for me both locally and internationally. Having those professional letters after your name demonstrates that you not only have the requisite technical knowledge and experience, but also that you have the hard work and determination required to pass demanding professional exams.

How do you stay motivated?

I am motivated by the long, fulfilling and rewarding career that having the ACCA qualification and membership should offer, and the respect it will garner from friends, family and colleagues alike.

What words of encouragement do you have for other students?

I think that setting goals, both short-term and long-term are an important step to remaining motivated and for planning purposes. It is important to remain focused and not allow oneself to get too distracted by the many things that can sway our attention these days like social media and the internet etc.

I also like to remind myself  of the often quoted expression “Nothing worth having in life is ever easy to achieve”, in order to stay motivated.
